The Colt 9mm SMG, but the updated version with a few variants: R0991, R0992 and AR6951.
R0991 and R0992 are select firing variants with a flat top upper receiver and M4 furnitures. The AR6951 is the modern civilian semi-automatic carbine variant of the Colt 9mm SMG with a 16 inch barrel.
Colt 9mm SMGs operate from a straight blowback system, and are built from existing AR-15 receivers with an added magazine well adapter pinned into the lower receiver. The invention of these 9mm variants come when American law enforcement in the 1970s want more firepower than just a pistol, but don't want over penetration from a rifle round. One of the top SMGs at the time was the MP5, but costs and ordering of parts are inconvenient due to MP5's are made in Germany. Colt's 9mm SMG are domestically produced in the United States, operate on the same handling functions as an AR-15, and much more cheaper to acquire.
